A Perfect Circle release their brand new track “Disillusioned,” the second new song from the band’s upcoming full-length.

In a world full of mediocre rock and mumble rap, it is truly a breath of fresh air when you receive notification that a talented band released new music.

According to Rolling Stone, “Disillusioned” will appear along with “The Doomed” on a new vinyl release due out March 9th. Both songs are also set to appear on A Perfect Circle’s upcoming full-length, which does not yet have a release date. The band’s last LP, Emotive, came out in 2004.

“Disillusioned” begins out of the gate with your classic A Perfect Circle tone and demeanor. Maynard’s vocals echo the plight within society today, as you have come to expect from the lead vocalist, but it’s welcoming nonetheless.

What really caught my attention was the almost defeated, yet hopeful piano break halfway through the song. Though it took me a few listens to really take in the dynamics of the track, when I finally digested that section, it almost felt like a bat to the face – though it was the farthest thing from sonically.

The track takes a break to actually gain your attention. Everything slows down to a lonely piano all by itself after Maynard gently echos the following:

“Time to put the silicon obsession down / Take a look around, find a way in the silence”

It sounds like a eulogy written for the state of the modern world, and you can’t help but listen. The silence is almost deafening.

The band quickly bring it back to the rock surface just before you lose hope, insinuating that not all is lost. A feeling I haven’t had since listening to Metallica’s “To Live Is To Die” all those years ago. Bravo Mr. Howardel, you never cease to amaze me.

What lies ahead for A Perfect Circle is a European tour in June, hopefully accompanied by a new album. You can pre-order the Dual Groove 10″ vinyl now at their website.
